Bangkok.

After a great send off from family we got an amazing  quantus flight to Bangkok (AMAZING!!! now can really appreciate how awful the Iberia flight was!) Clare was sick no more although we had an EXTREMELY drunk scottish man cuddling up to James which was fairly amusing! Flight almost went too fast and neither of us got to see the many films that we had a selection of!

Arrived in airport ontime…. Thought it was hot until we stepped outside! It was 34degrees, with what seemed like no immediate air. Taxi to guest house (travelled in style!), where clare left phone! Guest house (New Siam 2) nice and has AMAZING air conditioning. Arrival was immediately followed by a torrential  storm for hour or 2 but havnt seen a drop of rain since. We wandered around, ate and drunk along Koh San Road, interesting. Busy, smelt lots! Great food for less than 2pounds – we liked! Offered tuk tuk’s, fish massages, drinks, trainers, dresses….. oooh and toys that sound like frogs!

Yesterday we somehow crammed an impressive amount in without dying from the heat, humididty or pollution whoo! We got the river boat up and down and up and down! Went round a big temple, saw the reclining buddha, the outside of the grand palace (no way was I putting on long trousers in that temperature to go in!! Priorities lol) Had our first tuk tuk experience, and that it was. Still alive so it went ok despite the hellraising ride around the entire city, saw more temples and buddhas, but hey it was only 50p! Bangkok the most difficult cuty to get around even with a good map, so the tuk tuks definately have their benifits!! Chinatown at night was impressive, food stalls wandering into 4 lanes of traffic, lots of smells again! Some good, some very very bad…. A particualr one that we can only describe as an extremely stong pet shop smell which you get a good whiff of every now and then. YUM!

Had thai curry in thailand for dinner! And to the steel family – it tasted just like Thelma’s! VERY good!  The day caught up with us and we made the most of a comfy, air conditionned bed before our night bus, 2nd class, to chaing mai tonight!

Temperature 40 today and not hidden behind cloud so dying. Hence in internet cafe at midday! Looking forward to leaving Bangkok to be honest! Was an experience but one we’ll happily not have again! People warn you when you go to Rio – those ppl are mad! Rio was beautiful and clean, and lovely, and people should really get out more, ie to bangkok and then they’ll see how lovely rio is! We are happy lets just say that we started here, and will be finishing in South America!

So Chaing Mai tonight – looking forward to it – a little more air – local Thai ness! And getting out of the city. Will be doing 2 day trek Thursday so will try to report back after before we fly down to Koh Samui!

Lots of love xxx and congratulations Jenny!!
