Cameron Highlands…. Green and lots of tea!

To sum up – we loved it!! We loved the tea – the green landscape and where we stayed :D

we got up seriously early… 5.30am? and got the mini bus all the way to the highlands where there was no rain!! it was impossible not to be impressed, everything was sooo green and there were clouds below the tops of mountains that we were driving above… We stayed at ‘Fathers Guesthouse’ and we were sooo happy here, really nice common area where films went on from 3 in the afternoon and you could get really good tea and scones…… a really nice place to chill out and enjoy the scenery. We had a good curry in town and then went back to work on plans for the next couple of days including booking a trip for the next day!

We started off our tour of the highlands with a trip to a rose garden! Sounds really naff but it was amazing! It was on a huge hill which meant that a 2 min walk to the top (james says 20 haha) and you got amazing views over the hills covered in tea plantations. Plus saw lots of interesting cactus and some beautiful roses. Next on our stop was a strawberry farm, this was pretty rubbish! But resulted in an amazing fresh strawberry milkshake – mcdonalds eat your heart out!! Then came the butterfly farm, which also included a whole insect reptile section which is best left for the pictures to tell! (Dont worry dad I’ll leave the spider ones out!!) The butterfly part was impressive – huge butterflies surrounded you and would happily sit on your hand… The best was saved for last and we went to the tea plantations, we drove around the hills where they are grown, got explained how things were picked, and went around the factory, where they still use the same machinery from 1920, all owned by a Scottish family! This was all amazing, the scenery was breathtaking and you were surrounded by an incredibly strong smell of tea! Like the cadburys factory, just swap with tea! Oh and then we saw a temple and a market but thats pretty ordinary and boring! All in all the trip was great and the day ended in bliss in comfy clothes curled up on the sofa with a bottle of wine (yes way overbudget treat!) and watched a film we didnt understand but hey ho. Hard to explain how good relaxing in comfy surroundings actually was!!

Started the day off with a good fathers guesthouse breckie of toast egg and bacon! Then got a bus to KL the next day….. 1 and a half hours of hairpin bends……. It was not good. Not good at all!! But views were great….
