We arrived later than we expected in kuala lumper, my journey was meant to be filled with reading about Australia but instead had random conversations, (with the odd useful bits, odd being the key word here!) with an old aussie guy that travels far too much on his own! But in all honesty he was a great help at telling us things we should def see on our short Australian tour and things we can easily miss if we are short on time. After getting off the bus we got our bearings and headed for our hostel (Our first experience of dorms!) After a longer walk than expected we got to Beds KL and it’s is probably one of the best places we have stayed so far, highly recommend it! everything was clean, good dorm rooms, nice seating area, cheap internet, great guy running it and the best shower ever! Chatted to a nice guy from Nepal he told us some tales and showed us a huge monkey bite he got from Bali at a monkey temple, told us to watch out for the monkeys as they like to steal items as well if we go there. Decided we should get out and see the towers in the night time as they looked amazing from a distance. Really big and so bright we was really impressed. Next we went to find food and as there was a mini chinese hawker place by our hostel we headed there. We picked the one that had the most people in it and then chose some nice simple noodle dishes and some satay chicken bits – it was the worst chinese we have ever had, huge flat noodles were slippery and overcooked only ok thing was the satays hmmm clare could only manage a bite of each don’t blame her really but couldn’t let her starve and by the time she admitted hunger defeat it was really late and a lot of places were closed so we headed to the golden arches of McDonalds for some nuggets and chips – finally defeated.
Next day we had a lie in till 12 and headed out to first find some books and then on to tour the city and go up the telecoms tower (it is meant to give far better views of the city than the twin towers). After being defeated last night we continued and gave in and had a subway for lunch – something so nice about eating a decent sandwich rather than fried noodles and rice etc again! (never thought I’d say that) We did last almost a month before breaking so weren’t too disappointed in ourselves. We must have gone in about 4 books shops looking for the correct cover version of Twilight – Full Moon, Clare wanted the nice cover that was matt with the shiny graphic… After admitting they don’t have it she bought the copy that was bigger and shinny all over… next bookshop we saw had the correct one doh oh well I’m sure she will get over it… Maybe. So we continued our shopping tour to looking for new mobile for clare and anything else… We ended up at Times Square shopping centre, it is huge, 16 floors about 9 of them full with shops, 1 part had a theme part in it, very impressive! Found a post office to send back some of our extra items and things we bought in thailand, Mum it will be arriving in about 2-3 months… hopefully! Started raining badly outside and it didn’t look like it would stop so headed to the cinema but sadly all films had started, And there was no Topshop as Clare thought Chez had mentioned – very disappointed clare that needed some replacement tops. Decided to blowout going to the viewing tower and headed back to our place to update blog, have a chat with people, I watched a film and we organised most our pictures. We got a bit carried away and forgot our plan to go Little India to eat as it was night market day, so we headed for the the Monorail (they missed a trick with this great system as the trains were tiny!) we got there but the rain must have closed it early as all the stalls were closing up. Determined for a decent indian we looked in the lonely planet and head for ones that were open late. walked down plenty of dodgy streets and again, Lonely planet let us down as the next two places were closed hours before the book said! But luckily we walked past a place near the bus terminal on our way back and found one open, we got 2 tandoori chicken naans, all freshly cooked, they were amazing! So headed back to spend more time on a computer organising more pictures and picking some best ones out, we really could do with a day on this!
Next morning we checked out after a really great stay at Beds KL and got our taxi to the airport to travel away from the rain to Bali, but even that wasn’t to be simple… At all….
