Another beautiful scenic drive!! Just before Lake Tekapo we stopped at a truly picturesque stone chapel built by the Lake, common for weddings due to the stunning location. It was absolutely gorgeous!! We arrived late, as usual! And checked into a campsite which allowed us a site right on the edge overlooking the Lake. Definite advantage to camping!!! We set up camp, and James had the great idea of feeding the ducks our leftover bread, but they speedily dispersed as if we were throwing stones!! Oh well we threw it later hoping they’d come back for it later!!
Lake Tekapo was amazing…. Huge turquoise lake with snow capped mountain range in the background. Wow!!
The next day we decided to do the Scenic walk to the top of Mount John!! This meant up and back along the edge of the huge lake. Oh my goodness we are unfit!!! We made it up however, nice views! The highlight was the views of the Lake on the return, the colour of the water was absolutely incredible! And seriously amazing views from every angle!! The water was such an amazing colour as it used to be an glacier, which used to rub against the ground leaving a powdery residue behind which reflects the amazing colour…. or something like that!! Mike would explain it far better, and correct if wrong!
So we had a great walk, were knakred by the end!! And Clare had some impressive blisters from her new boots hehe! We then headed off to Mount Cook………
