After an amazing stay at bounty we weren’t sure if our choice of places would only get better, or worse, but saying that, how bad could they when they’re all going to be beautiful islands! Not bad at all it turned out! We were greeted off the boat with flowers and nice cold drinks, then just had to sign in where we meet an Irish couple Ruth and Al that had also just arrived. We then discovered that we had both just done the others journey the other way around so would have many an opportunity to swap notes and chat about places over the next days!
Our dorm was ok, not as nice as last place but we had it all to ourselves, so almost just like having our own room and we’d been made up the 2 nicest beds in the room. We just had time for a quick dip in the sea before drums started to go for lunch where we discovered there was only 11 people on the island in total – perfect for getting away from it all and relaxing. Lunch was a nice fish but with a strange green potato which was oddly nice and salad with sweet chilli over it, it was good, smaller than what we are used to but more than enough, we chatted the next 2 hours with Ruth and Al and met everyone else staying on the island so it instantly become a lot more friendly and some of them had been recommended to just come to botaira and forget all the other islands – impressive, and everyone that had been here for a while really liked it. Ruth showed us their bure on the beach and it was really beautiful and can see why you could stay for a long time. We were then straight back to beach to do some snorkeling which was the best we have seen since Australia, we spent most the afternoon snorkeling around in the really warm water together really nice. Soon it was dinner and we found out the power goes off at midnight (or whenever everyone was in bed, pretty good idea really!) for a few hours… just hoped it was not a hot night! we got to have a good chat with the staff and everyone and we was getting taken out in the morning to catch lunch with a bit of line fishing out on the reef. But just before bed we were greeted with a nice huge spider in our room, that ran when clare entered it from right under our bed haha trust our luck not see any in 3 months in all the places you really should and then see one here (well 2 if you include the one by clares face earlier…..) luckly it ran away towards the door and we found out that they dont bite.
Early the next morning we found a huge flaw with our room… its right by the drum that they hit hard to say when breakfast was, especially hard for the bure’s all the way down the beach! Nevermind up and out early! nice bit of breakfast then on the boat for some line fishing where most of us just had our bait eaten and ruth caught a reef fish and one of the locals got 2 red snappers, one a huge one! and a tiny one but both beautiful coral colours. Clare was sea sick, literally off the side of the boat, big waves in australia are fine, but gentle lulling on a calm sea didn’t seem to go down well! The rest of the day was spent playing with hermit crabs, lots more snorkelling, and lots of resting, with lunch and afternoon tea inbetween, this is the life! Sad to think it was our last night here as it went so fast and it all felt perfect here. We had a late night talking with everyone, exchanging travel notes and talking to the staff.
At least we had till after lunch here, woken early again but we didnt mind as it meant we got more time on the beach before saying goodbye to our new friends and setting off to what is said to be the best of them all… really hoping it is now as it has a lot to live up to!
