We waved goodbye to Botaira on our little boat that took us out to the big boat, crash landed into the big boat! and were soon onboard! Had about 40mins back to Octopus, as it was on the way back to Nadi, beautiful sunny scenery of the surrounding islands!
We got onto Octopuses boat which took us ashore, to be greeted by lots more staff singing the welcome song, and were told to shout Bula back as loudly as we could! The resort looked beautiful from the boat, lots of little bamboo shelters lined the edge of a long sweeping beach. We were greeted with a great fruit juice, and our bags taken to our room. We didn’t get the dorm we asked for, but were instead in a little 5 bed one in a cute thatch building. Very nice, apart from only having 1 small fan, and no ceiling fan working!! So I asked for more fans and soon there were 3! Much better! We made the most of the rest of the day by heading straight out to the beach, although it was a really big resort, there still seemed relatively small amount of people!
That night we had the welcoming cermonany, involving the local drink, kava. which literally tastes like muddy water – literally! Apparently if you drink a good amount of it then the extra effects kick in but no way was I drinking any more! We sat with a couple in there 60’s from LA that live half the year there and the other half in Tuscany! And inbetween travel lots! Alright for some! Can imagine he was some rich famous screenwriter or something! He definitely looked like it! Then in the evening was crab racing! Our video says it all! We were very proud of our little hermit no.5 bringing us in 3rd place and putting money towards our cocktails the next night!
Big all you can eat breakfast so we ate all we could! Beach time, then more food, lunch meals were just as big as dinners, YUM local fish and chips! Sat with another older couple from LA who seem to travel sooo much and used to drag their kids down the amazon when all under the age of 10! And we got invited to stay at their guest house for free if we’re ever near their way….! That night was Fijian night, locals did a performance, just a bit more polished than Botaira haha! And much bula bula dancing, but followed with bbq pig for dinner! See pics!
More relaxing, tons more food, never got a chance to be hungry! No idea people said you should bring your own snacks to fill the gaps! We watched (another!) couple get married on the beach and had the best dinner of our stay there, TONS of bbq’d meat…… YUM YUM YUM!! It was beach disco that night, and our 5 years anniversary so we had some cocktails on the beach :) (and free tequila shots!)
Our last full day started with a sweaty trip to the village to church, and the singing was absolutely amazing, but didnt last it all out… Priest’s homily was a bit scary so we waited for a calm bit to sneak out! James got a snorkel out and braved the waves, had a good time but wasnt as impressed with everywhere else we’d been but still had nice fish! Coconut chicken for lunch :) More sun :) Amazing sunset :) Yummy 3 course dinner with a nice german couple :) And outside movie night, (whip-it) big screen with beach as background :) we had such a nice time, it was the perfect 10 days of just relaxing and eating, relaxing and eating!
On our last day we soaked in the last of the sun, James went for a walk down the beach and met a local family that invited him in and chatted to for a while! We got the boat back to Nadi early afternoon, with beautiful views, to a free dinner on mainland, beautiful sunset and a nice hot dorm!
