We were chucked off the bus and wondering where on earth we were!! We literally in the middle of the desert! Walked around a couple of corners though and we found ourselves in a really really nice town. Very sandy streets, desert type buildings, and just a couple of main roads, all set out for tourism, restaurants and tour operators and arty shops, but it had a really nice feel about it. It was just the kind of town we’d hoped to see more of in places that ended up being a lot bigger than we imagined.
We checked into our hostel and were immediately bombarded with tours, and when we said no to one asked why not haha but we had a really good idea of what we wanted to see and do. We booked up stargazing for the night, where we got to see the most amount of stars we’d ever seen by standing in the middle of the dessert, with a really interesting guy pointing at them with an amazing clever laser that seemed to reach the stars, explaining constellations, and the making of stars, how they move and lots of interesting facts! Then we had a chance to look through some professional telescopes at the stars, planets and galaxies, all finished off with a nice cup of hot chocolate!
The next day we had a leisurely morning as all the tours start at 4pm, and booked the Sand boarding and sunset at Luna Valley. We went with the guy that did a video of it all so we’d have some good memories! We arrived at a giant sand dune, and instead, like the other group, standing and practising on the ground for a while we walked all the way to the top of the dune, waxed the boards and had a go! James was a natural at it, and I loved the going down but almost died every time walking back up!! We had a really fun afternoon, it was soo hot, and soo hard climbing back up the dune, but soooo much fun going down!! After this just before sunset we drove to the valley de luna, there were only 5 of us, and the guy took us to a unique spot where only he goes far away from the spot where all the other tours take you, so we sat on a rock, with no one in sight with a cup of Pisco Sour and watched the sun go down, it was really amazing.
That morning we’d booked our Salt Flat tour with who is supposed to be the best company in town and found out that the girls we spent the day with were also booked on for that day with the same company so we managed to form a group, knowing the people we’d be doing it with was great!
The last day we did the salt lake tour…… This involved going to huge lakes, just like the red sea that you could completely float in, which were unbelievably deep!! SOo much fun! Also involved going to the salt flats of san pedro where we watched sunset again, with more pisco! This was stunning and a very good sign for things to come on the Uyuni Salt flat tour!!
We had a really really good time in San Pedro, spent a lot on trips, but they were all soooo good, we really loved our time there and were seriously excited to get up at 5am the next morning to get in the jeep to start our Salt Flat tour into Bolivia!!
